Air Travel and Getting to Providence

The closest and most convenient airport is T. F. Green airport (PVD) which is a short taxi ride from the conference hotel and the Brown campus. For international travelers, it may be much cheaper and easier to fly to Boston’s Logan airport (BOS). It takes a little over an hour to get from Boston to Providence by bus or train. From Logan, the easiest way to get to Providence is via Peter Pan Bus Lines, or via the MBTA Commuter Rail train service from South Station, Boston:

  • The Peter Pan Bus leaves from Logan Airport at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. You can pick up the bus outside each terminal The bus is marked “Providence Express” You can buy your ticket on board the bus ($22, cash only) or you can buy your ticket in advance from the Peter Pan site. When you arrive in Providence, the most convenient stop is Providence Kennedy Plaza, which is in the center of downtown Providence and a few blocks from the hotel (see map). The main bus station in Providence is a little outside the city, but is a short taxi ride from the hotel if you do get off there.
  • The MBTA Commuter Rail provides train service between Boston’s South Station and downtown Providence. The train is somewhat less convenient than the bus, since you have to get to South Station first, but if your flight arrives just moments too late for one of the bus departures, the train may save you a bit of waiting. To get to South Station, take the the Silver line to the South Station stop (which is the terminus) and then follow signs to the Commuter Rail and Amtrak trains. Providence is on the Providence-Stoughton line and trains leave South Station for Providence at 6:25 am, 7:20 am, 9:55 am, 12:10 pm, 1:50 pm, 3:45 pm, 4:35 pm, 5:00 pm, 5:40 pm, 6:10 pm, 6:50 pm, 8:15 pm, 9:05 pm, 10:25 pm, and 11:59 pm. You should get off at the Providence station, and the hotel is a short walk away (see map).
